The Night Rodeo - Mens Semis ...By Ken Whiting and Kevin Varette June 30, 2001 The semis for Mens K1 took place at night for a change in environment second to none. We went from the hot blistering day to a nighttime showcase, media frenzy unlike anything any of us has seen before! Day 6...The Final CutBy Ken Whiting and Kevin Varette June 30, 2001 It is a smokin' hot day in Sort and most of us are thankful that at least some of the day's events are being held after dark because the sun is merciless! The K-1 Junior Men's and the K-1 Women's semifinal rounds took place this morning, with the field of 10 athletes in both classes getting cut to 5 for tomorrow's final elimination rounds. Mens Quarterfinals- Cutting down the fieldBy Ken Whiting and Kevin Varette June 29, 2001 Friday morning started off quickly with the quarter finals for Men's K1. The men's field had already been cut down from 155 to 40. Today, the field was to be brought down to just 15, which meant that the paddling was sure to be brought to another level. Day 2 CoverageBy Ken Whiting and Kevin Varette June 26, 2001 Tuesday saw the 3 largest classes hit the water for preliminary action (Junior Men, Women's K1, and Men's K1). The junior Men had the pace set yesterday by the first four heats, and it was obvious that to be one of the 20 quarter finalists, there could be no holds barred. Curtis Out, Varette In (NT) By Ken Whiting June 26, 2001 Tyler Curtis suffered a separated shoulder on Sunday, and had to withdraw on Monday. Matt Hamilton is the first Canadian alternate, but due to the lateness of the injury, Kevin Varette will take the position because he is in Sort already, and is next in line.
