THE RIVERS Kananaskis River, Canmore Alberta This is Calgary's "bread and butter" river. It is a class 2/3 river, with great play spots and eddies that make it an excellent warm-up and instructional river. Site of many rodeos and slalom races, including the western Canadian team rodeo trials, this dam release river provides the perfect start to our trip. Kicking Horse River, Golden British Columbia With three different sections from class 3-5, this river has something for everyone. The put-in is on the border of Yoho National Park below the impressive Mount Chancellor, and flows through a 4000+ foot deep canyon. This river played a historic role in Canadian history, it is this route through the Rockies that the first railway took, crossing the country to form a nation. The white water on this glacial fed river is exciting and continuous with fun play features. Clearwater River, Clearwater British Columbia This river also has three sections, and is considered to be the standing wave capitol of the province. Like most rivers, the flow will dictate which waves will be going off. At a low level, it will have defined features, while in high water this big volume river will have some fun and exciting LARGE wave trains. Skookumchuck, Egmont British Columbia The "Skooks" is the crowning gem of this trip. It is one of the most unique and beautiful paddling spots in the world. Surrounded by snow capped peaks and beautiful temperate rainforest, this tidal rapid is one of the most amazing waves you'll ever surf. The tides are like clockwork so we are guaranteed great playing. The wave starts out as a ripple, and over the course of 3-6 hours becomes a huge, yet soft surfing dream. Along the shore of its feeder eddy is a colorful display of star fish, barnacles and other marine life. It is not uncommon to have sea lions, seals and bald eagles sharing this playground with you.
